Western Mountains Adventurer

Journey through the Canadian Rockies and discover the best mountain resorts in Alberta and Whistler British Columbia.

WESTERN MOUNTAINS ADVENTURER ROUTE

The best way to experience Canada’s Western Mountain Region is a road trip through the stunning mountain vistas. Your drive through the Canadian Rockies will include sparkling emerald lakes, charming towns, and lots of wildlife viewing. Included are some suggestions that you can use to help outline your rocky mountain road trip.

Day one Calgary to The Fairmont Banff Springs

From Calgary drive one and a half hours west to Banff to begin your Rocky Mountain Adventure in Banff National Park. After checking into The Fairmont Banff Springs visit the concierge to plan your activities for the next day from fly fishing, to heli-hiking, rock climbing, downhill biking, to ATV tours and white water rafting. Your options are endless in Banff. In the afternoon, head up the Sulphur Mountain Gondola for the spectacular views and photo opportunities. Afterwards instead of taking the gondola, hike down the trail to the Banff Hot Springs for a rewarding soak. Enjoy a hearty dinner in The Waldhaus or Bow Valley Grill featuring locally inspired cuisine like elk, bison and Alberta beef.

Day two The Fairmont Banff Springs

Before setting out on your first activity for the day, grab lunch to-go from the Castle Pantry. Meet your fishing guide for the day, head down to the Bow Falls for a float down the Bow River or board your transfer to white water rafting or an ATV tour. If hiking is more your thing, ask the concierge for recommendations, from Sunshine Meadows to Johnston Canyon, nearby trails offer memorable full and half day hike options. After a day of exploration in Banff National Park visit the Willow Stream spa and soak in the mineral pool, perfect for soothing tired muscles.

Day three Banff to The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

Get an early start and head forty-five minutes west to The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Be sure to take the 1A highway route, great for wildlife spotting and short hikes along the way. After checking into the hotel, enjoy Afternoon Tea in the Lakeview Lounge. Afterwards visit the Lake Louise Gondola, known for great bear spotting in the summer, or take a guided mountain bike ride with one of our Mountain Heritage Guides. In the evening enjoy a sumptuous fondue dinner in the Walliser Stube

Day four The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

Start the morning with a health conscious breakfast in Poppy Brasserie. After breakfast meet you personal Mountain Heritage Guide for your half day or full day hike. Our guides are some of the most knowledgeable, interesting and fun people to go hiking with. Hear historical facts about the area, stories about local wildlife and tips on hiking techniques. During your hike you will stop at the Lake Agnes Tea House or Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House. Here you can enjoy freshly made baked goods, sandwiches and soups. Once back at the hotel, if you are still up for more fun, book a North Canoe Guided Adventure on Lake Louise. Afterwards enjoy the evening relaxing in your room and a casual dinner in the Glacier Saloon.

Day five Lake Louise to Kamloops

After breakfast enjoy a morning walk around Lake Louise and be sure to get the million dollar photo on the shore of the lake. Check out of the hotel and continue on your journey just under six hours to your stop over in Kamloops, along the way stop in Golden, BC for a zip-lining adventure.

Day six Kamloops to The Fairmont Chateau Whistler

Get an early start for your four and a half hour drive to Whistler. Along the way you will travel through the beautiful valleys of Lillooet and Pemberton. After arriving at The Fairmont Chateau Whistler check into your room and relax poolside. In late afternoon make your way to Zip-Trek Eco Tours for tree-trek canopy walk or a twilight zip-trek tour. After arriving back to The Chateau enjoy dinner on the Mallard Terrace or in the Wildflower restaurant for locally inspired cuisine.

Day seven The Fairmont Chateau Whistler

Start the morning with a health conscious breakfast in Portobello Deli before embarking on a day of fun. Rent mountain bikes and explore the endless downhill trails on Whistler Blackcomb Mountains. For an incredible experience take a bear viewing tour. Riding in a comfortable 4x4 vehicle, you are lead through a maze of ski area roads, diverse forests and stream environments. You will visit bear feeding sites, daybeds, rub trees, and old growth trees where bears have hibernated during the winter. If traditional hiking is your thing visit the concierge for a list of hikes from serene to extreme. In the evening relax in the eucalyptus steam room before dinner at the hotel or in Whistler village.

Day eight Whistler to Vancouver

The morning brings another beautiful day in Whistler. Grab a freshly made smoothie or homemade granola from The Chateau’s Portobello Deli, a Whistler favourite. Check out of the hotel and begin your journey down the Sea to Sky highway to Vancouver. Along the way stop at Shannon Falls for an easy hike and stunning photo opportunity. Arrive at the Fairmont Vancouver Airport hotel for the conclusion of your Rocky and Coastal Mountain Adventure.
