FAMILY - ROCKIES ROAD TRIP ROUTE

The best way to experience Canada’s Western Mountain Region is a road trip through the stunning mountain vistas. Your drive through the Canadian Rockies will include sparkling emerald lakes, charming towns, and lots of wildlife viewing. Included are some suggestions that you can use to help outline your rocky mountain road trip.

Day one Edmonton to Jasper

Three and a half hours due west of Edmonton is Jasper National Park and The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. Along the way keep your eyes peeled for wildlife and the Rocky Mountains emerging in the distance. After checking into The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge the day is yours to explore the 700-acres of property and endless activities.

Day two The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

After a hearty breakfast rent a transparent canoe for a ride on Lac Beauvert, saddle up for a horseback trail ride, sign the kids up for Kids Camp while mom and dad rejuvenate in the new Fairmont Spa or play a round on Canada’s #1 resort golf course. Kids under eighteen can play golf for free daily after 1:00pm when accompanying an adult. After a day full of fun enjoy dinner at one of the hotels’ family friendly restaurants and reminisce about your first day in the Rockies. At The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, kids under five eat free and kids under twelve eat for 50% off.

Day three Jasper to Lake Louise

Embark on one of the worlds most spectacular drives, three and a half hours down the Icefields Parkway. Along the journey highlights include the Athabasca Falls, the chance to spot wildlife like bear, moose, deer and elk and the magnificent Columbia Icefields, where you can board a massive Ice Explorer for a remarkable excursion onto the surface of the Athabasca Glacier. As you arrive at The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise you might be lucky enough to be greeted by hotel mascot Bow the Bear or Sonny the hotel dog.

Day four The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

Wake up early and enjoy a sumptuous breakfast buffet in the newly renovated Poppy Brasserie before setting out for a day of adventure in Banff National Park. Pick up lunch to-go from the Chateau Deli and visit the Lake Louise Gondola, or take an exhilarating white-water rafting trip, horseback trail ride or simply enjoy a leisurely canoe ride on Lake Louise. The Chateau offers unique kids programming from photography classes to kids hiking and cooking classes with our chefs. In the evening enjoy dinner in the family friendly setting of the Poppy Brasserie or Walliser Stube. At The Chateau, kids under five eat free and kids under twelve eat for 50% off.

Day five Lake Louise to Banff

After breakfast and before checking out be sure to get your photo with Bow the Bear or Sonny the hotel dog. Continue your journey through Banff National Park forty-five minutes east to The Fairmont Banff Springs. After checking in, explore the hotel grounds, take a dip in the outdoor pool or visit the hotels’ own bowling centre. Be sure to register the kids for tomorrows’ RU Ready sports program or The Fairmont Banff Springs Kids Club for a day of exploration they won’t soon forget.
